An eclectic mix of symbols and their associated legends has been the inspiration behind “The Raven and the Moon”.
Since times before science was able to explain many of the mysteries of the world in which we live, symbols have been used as an expression of identity, ideas and as an embodiment of spiritual understanding. The origin and meaning of similar symbols across many diverse cultures is not always understood but the imagery involved seldom fails to provide an evocative and sometimes mysterious impression of the knowledge, legends and beliefs from a forgotten world.
From story telling to profound matters of faith, their deeper meanings remain a source of fascination to this day. From earliest times in human development, before the written word became commonplace, symbols have also served as tools in ceremonies, rituals, prophecy and as a means of focusing the energy of thought.
The Raven and the Moon are among two of the most striking and enigmatic symbols to be found. Both represent a paradox of meaning in their own right and neither is quite what it seems. One is a bright entity living in a world of darkness and the other is a dark being living in a world of light. However, their popular meanings are far less clear cut than their stark contrast in appearance would suggest. Each represents a reminder of the need to look beyond the visible and to the fact that there is more than one side to everything.
This album is dedicated to all those free-spirited people who, despite a lifetime of conditioning, still believe or want to believe that there is a magical dimension to life.
